- <p> SENTENCED. JOSEPH BUTTAFUOCO, 37, Long Island auto-body repairman;
- on one count of statutory rape; in Mineola, New York. La commedia
- e finita--or so one can only hope after the sentencing last
- week of Joey Buttafuoco to six months in jail for the 1991 statutory
- rape of the then 16-year-old Amy Fisher, whose subsequent shooting
- of Buttafuoco's wife 18 months ago kicked off a tabloid epic.
- Judge Jack Mackston meted out to Buttafuoco the maximum penalty
- permissible, including a $5,000 fine and five years' probation.
- Fisher, who is serving five to 15 years, appeared at the sentencing
- to read a lengthy statement in which she both acknowledged her
- guilt for what had happened and blamed her behavior on Buttafuoco.
- "This man took me to expensive restaurants and cheap motels,"
- she said, sounding like the made-for-TV-movie character she
- became. With good behavior, Buttafuoco could be released in
- four months.
